My Sketch Book Now

Tucked secretly away in my desk drawer is my sketch book. No one knows it's there but me, except you, now.

I don't go anywhere anymore without a sketch book, this is a lesson I learned recently while waiting for my niece (and her mom) in the ER for 4 hours. Now, my sketch books are everywhere in my world; one in my car, one in my purse, one by my bed (for late night inspirations) and the secret one I have at my desk here at work (the secret one that's not much of a secret one anymore).

Sketching is a lot like journal-ing. It allows me to ponder, invent, try ideas, and even laugh at myself. When ever I can, I like to sneak in a moment to bring to life a new character, or work up a design for a future painting. I do it because it's fun, it reminds me not to take things so seriously, and because it keeps my design ideas fresh.

Here's what's new from my sketch book this week.....a Grecian inspired urn, The Flying Froggie Queen, and a theatre set, all straight out of my imagination, and a hard week's worth of work here at the office. I'm quite inspired by the Flying Froggie Queen, she's my alter ego, for sure.

"A man should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day of his life in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful which God has implanted in the human soul." - Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
