Princesses really do wear hiking boots!

On Saturday I was in the small mountain town of Edwards to take in and photograph the
Princess Party at The Bookworm.
The Bookworm is now my favorite bookstore in Colorado, and that says a lot!!  What a charming, charming store/cafe, with staff that is equally great.  And, who knew that the mountains were filled with so many princesses? Those girls just love my sisters book "Do Princesses Wear Hiking Boots?" and the store was launching her new book "Do Princesses Have Best Friends Forever?" with a princess party. Many little fans came from the neighboring towns of Breckenridge, Vail and Beaver Creek for this event where they made friendship bracelets out of construction paper and ate mud pies made of chocolate. And they were clamoring to meet my sister. Wow, I've never seen so much pink in one place! Or so many crowns, as each girl (and some moms) wore their best princess costume,... some wore hiking boots with their costume, some high heels and one 3 year old was wearing silver platforms (I had a photo of that one, but she moved and it blurred).
Carmela read from 3 of her books and she signed copies for bright eyed moms (and dads too!) writing personalized inscriptions to their children.

This mom told me that her daughter picked out her tiara and matching earrings.
This little one stole my heart. She was shy but was the true princess wearing hiking boots as there was hardly a stitch of pink on her, she was in a plaid top and jeans and really did wear hiking boots along with this smashing tiara. It was the perfect outfit and my favorite of the day.
These girls were thrilled to pose for me. Sisters that reminded me of my sister and I when we were their age. So adorable.
Not only do they stock great books and magazines The Bookworm has a riverside cafe. The items on the "organic" menu are named after famous authors, the Jane Austen is a plain butter and sugar crepe. And can you believe the wonderful drawing on this mocha latte? The guy "John" who works in the cafe told us that he uses a tooth pick to decorate all the lattes when he has time. We were impressed by that...and the crepes. Delicious.

Visit The Bookworm here and my sister here.

Thanks for posting in your blog. Adorable photos! The children were beyond delightful-- a sea of pink, purple, green blue princesses of unique proportions. And oh-so-fun to share the day with my sister. <3
